About the Founder

Founder of TrainChange, The Fitness Specialist, Al Smith, Jr.Al Smith, Jr. is the author of TrainChange: Fat Loss and founder of the TrainChange Fitness Studio.

Like many people, Al once struggled with his weight and lived the early part of his life enduring the stress of the ups and downs of weight loss and yo-yo dieting. In 1996, however,
he resolved to finally put an end to the cycle and develop a long term fitness strategy.

The solution he came up with is nothing like the traditional approach to dieting. Instead, his strategy was a logical approach that taught him how to control fat storage and utilization, while building lean muscle. More importantly, he learned how to customize his strategy to help other people achieve their fitness goal by teaching them how to consistently incorporate exercise and nutrition into their lifestyle. He eventually named the strategy TrainChange to emphasize the importance of how training your body is what allows you to change your life.

Always respond within the natural flow of your body; doing so allows complex maneuvers to become subconscious responses.

Avoid traditions and rituals that slow you down like sandbags of knowledge and prevent you from making progress; rather, seek common denominators in all things and apply the information in accordance with your own life.

TrainChange is not a diet. It’s a logical approach to control fat storage and utilization. The philosophy was to develop a strategy that could be customized to fit into anyone’s lifestyle. Specifically, one that would allow for enough flexibility to adjust to people’s body type and various needs.

Using this approach, TrainChange revolves around the “problems” that lead to excessive fat storage and calorie consumption, versus merely applying a short-term “solution” to decrease body weight. This is important since everyone is unique and lives within different constraints; the traditional one size fits all approach to dieting simply doesn't work.
